Abstract

With the advancement of technology, young people today live in a society with highly developed material civilization. Unfortunately, it seems that more and more young people are facing serious problems of depression and anxiety. This article analyzes the reasons for unprecedented anxiety and depression among young people from the perspective of postmodern consumerism culture. On the one hand, postmodern consumerism culture has wrongly shaped the worldview of young people, making them prone to losing direction. On the other hand, postmodern consumerism culture forces young people to engage in excessive competition, which exacerbates their sense of frustration and makes them more prone to anxiety and depression. In response to these two reasons, the article proposes suggestions from the perspectives of cultural construction and competition to help young people alleviate anxiety and depression.
